education

I wish i didn't have to come to sch today... The weather's so nice to sleep in. Had to literally drag myself out of bed this morning for my 8am lecture. *grr*

I like Prof Ip's lectures, though. He's interesting and fun, different from most lecturers, i would say. According to him, learning is all about relearning stuff, changing our past concepts of things.

It's a horror to know that all the things that i've learnt so far, are not correct! Since secondary school, I've learnt that "diffusion" is defined as the movement of molecules from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration and now, I've been told that the whole definition of diffusion is WRONG! As a result, I have to relearn it.

Funny, isn't it? Why can't we just start out with the right concepts from the very beginning, say, at primary school level, instead of teaching the kids all the wrong scientific concepts and making them relearn at a higher education level? Kind of pointless isn't it?

If I were a teacher, would I teach the kids what's in the textbook (which is scientifically, not correct?) or would I teach them the right things (which i'm learning right now at university level) and risk them getting the answers all wrong during the exams?

Hmm... makes me wonder about the whole point of education sometimes.

you know the really funny thing is that we've all heard about how everything we learn is going to be wrong even in secondary school.
